About Me

I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Northern Kentucky University in 2013. I then went on to receive my Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northern Kentucky University in 2016. The first time that I found myself wanting to be a therapist was when I was in the eighth grade. I knew that I wanted to help others and have always been drawn to the helping professions.

I entered my graduate program at Northern Kentucky University knowing that I wanted to specialize in working with eating disorders. I quickly realized that I was the only student in my cohort with a specific interest in working with body image issues and disordered eating patterns. I began to research and read about eating disorders and this only confirmed that I wanted to serve this population. I am passionate about self-acceptance and found this to be a perfect fit in working with this population. I consult regularly with a local eating disorder specialist to stay informed about the population and the best evidenced-based practices used to treat eating disorders in an outpatient setting.

As I navigated through my graduate program, I became increasingly interested in process, or behavioral, addictions. These are non-chemical addictions such as gambling, sex, pornography, and video game addictions. Individuals struggling with these issues seem to be under-served in the counseling community because there is a great deal of misunderstanding around them. I also specialize in working with process addictions and regularly research and read about the unique issues that accompany them.

I utilize several different theoretical orientations in my therapeutic approach such as: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. When working with individuals struggling with disordered eating patterns, I suggest that they seek services from a registered dietitian and I work in conjunction with the dietitian in order to ensure that the client receives well-rounded care.
